Sometimes you think that being a blogger is pretty easy, all you need is a computer and the Internet, but if you want to do it right there are some little things that quickly come into play. I have written once before about the programs I use for a web design project and today more about the technical equipment I use for Deliciae Design.
ASUS laptop (N551JK-CN158H)
Early this year I faced a dilemma – should I look deep into my wallet and finally buy an Apple? After all, I am a graphic (web) designer/developer, so then I just have to have one to maintain the stereotype, right? After weeks of doubt, I decided not to do it.
The reason I did not choose Apple was because my preference was for a laptop. I like being able to work anywhere (especially on my bed or couch) and with a laptop I have that freedom. So then I would have to go for the 15″ Macbook Pro, and with my graphics background and looking forward, the more expensive version was what I was looking for. Total cost: almost €3000! *swallow* I wouldn’t even dare walk down the street with it then!
I have almost always had an HP but noticed that after a year they do start to wear out very quickly. So I switched to the ASUS brand, and this version also had an IPS display. An IPS display was one of my requirements when not going for a Mac, as it has better color reproduction, higher contrast and somewhat wider viewing angles – ideal for a graphic designer, in other words! I haven’t regretted it for a moment so far, and because a friend was able to arrange a great discount at Media Markt, the price was not too bad either! I still have Windows, am familiar with it, can continue to use all my (purchased) programs and have no problems with anything.
But I admit, when I was on vacation a while back and saw two gigantic iMacs in a restaurant, I did start drooling for a while. It was that there was someone behind the iMac and looking at me strangely right away (otherwise I would have taken a picture!). I found that my mouth was open with surprise (because who expects two iMacs in a restaurant!!!) so I walked on pretty quickly. But. WOW! How beautiful it is! Yes, I am sure I will buy an iMac someday, just not for now. Dreaming is allowed, right!
Bamboo Pen Tablet
I have had this one for about 2.5 years and for graphic work it is ideal! No more pain in my hand when I do the same movements and it is also much easier than with a normal mouse. I use this tablet for creating blog designs (i.e. logo, backgrounds, patterns, etc.) and also for drawing on my computer although I’m not very good at that yet. This is also because I haven’t used it very often before this so it takes getting used to each time.
Canon 450D
Yes, you read correctly! A Canon 450D. About 5 years old by now I estimate, but still super satisfied with it. There have been periods lately where the camera is only good for collecting dust because I just don’t have enough time for it. I do miss photography (if you have known me for any length of time, you know that a few years ago I was focused on photography a lot) but I have to make choices and graphic design takes precedence for now.
I just get a little greedy with the new cameras coming out. Mostly because it’s easy to then take pictures that you can put on Instagram right away and have a flip screen and movie function, all things the 450D doesn’t have. These are points that I do miss from time to time, but for now it is fine and does not need replacing.
UrbanEars Plattan headphones + Philips SHX20 – In-ear earbuds
When I sit at the computer I have earbuds in or my headphones on by default. Whether music is on or not, I find that it allows me to work much more focused because it naturally muffles outside noise. I really can’t work without it, and often I feel like I’m missing something. So it really has become a habit.
I chose the Plattan because it’s a cool model with fun colors, reasonable price, good sound, microphone and an extension piece that allows you to attach an extra set of headphones/earbuds. Ideal! The Philips earbuds were on sale the other day, were reviewed as best on Kieskeurig and since I can’t always put headphones in my bag (too little space because of all the junk, haha) I was looking for earbuds so I chose these. I am very satisfied with both! Actually want to buy another color of the UrbanEars because they are so cute!
Samsung Mini S4
The phone I am currently using is the Samsung Mini S4. I am satisfied with it per se (Android ♥ ) but I find that I still should have chosen the larger version (then the S4) better. I chose the Mini because I thought I wouldn’t find such a large model useful, but now I think such a large screen is nice. The Mini does feel nice in the hand and works fine on its own, but the camera is not that great and I do regret that! Especially when I sometimes look at my Instagram photos and I still preferred the S4 because of the better camera. Oh and it’s too bad there aren’t as many cool cases being made for the Mini…. Anyway, in a few months I get to choose another new phone so for now I’ll just stick with this model.
Not too bad, right? I don’t find that I use a lot of equipment for my blog. What are things you really need for your blog?
